Scoring the End of the World Dynamic Typography
For this project I took a section of the song “Scoring the End of World” by the metal-core band Motionless in White and interpreted it into a visual form. This song is about the duplicity of social media and media in general and how they are tools that can be used to instigate the end of the world through either an apocalypse, or a rebirth.
I aimed to create the notion of a rogue emergency broadcast with a weak signal that is being affected by interference as a means of alluding to the notion of sifting through the “noise” and hate that is pervasive in modern media.
Originally I developed the entire project digitally through After Effects, but this felt disingenuous and overly CG to express the message that I wanted to convey.
The Process
I got into contact with a local glitch artist and they allowed me to connect my computer to their set up. Once we were all hooked up he taught me how to use the glitch module which could be used while the video was playing so I could art direct the performance of the glitch to have it match the intonation of the song.
Once I was comfortable with the glitch module I let the song play and recorded the CRT screen with my phone to create the diegetic aspect of the design.
